One St Vincent national and two Trinbagonians have been held for questioning in connection with the grisly murders of Richard and Grace Wheeler.
At a press briefing Thursday evening, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vincel Edwards said that the men were apprehended earlier today.
He added that no foreign assistance is being used to aid investigations at this time.
Edwards said it is difficult to say if there is in fact a serial killer behind these murders.
Neighbours discovered the bodies of attorney Richard Wheeler and his wife, Grace Wheeler, at their Riseland Trace, Bethel home around 9:00 am on Wednesday.
Mr Wheeler had been chopped several times, while his wife's throat had been slit.
Tobago House of Authority (THA) Chief Secretary Orville London said earlier this week that compared to other countries, Tobago’s crime situation is not one that is alarming, however precautions must be taken.
“When you have a crime as horrendous as this and to an certain extent seemingly as senseless as this everybody becomes or feels a little bit more vulnerable, and it is only when the facts come out that some of these fears hopefully would be alleviated.”
“The reality is as everywhere else, the situation in Tobago has changed. I do not believe the situation is one that is alarming but the situation has changed and even though we do not have a criminal environment, there are criminal elements in Tobago and therefore we have to operate as if there are criminals elements, that is being realistic.”
“Whether it is the resident or the visitor, you have to exercise the relevant vigilance in these circumstances.”
Meanwhile the UK has updated its travel restrictions for the country, placing UK nationals on alert
