12 prison officers make reports of threats, to police

TWELVE prison officers yesterday reported threats made to their lives at the Arouca police station. This was disclosed by Commissioner of Prisons, Sterling Stewart ,yesterday evening.
“In this time, any threat that is made has to be taken seriously as a precautionary measure. It is a policy to report threats, to the nearest police station,” he said.

On Monday, Superintendent of Prisons David Millette was shot dead near his Morvant home.

Commissioner Stewart appealed to prison officers to be vigilant in light of Millette’s killing.

“We are dealing with the most dangerous people in Trinidad and Tobago that are in our environment for too long, and as such there is the perception that we are the enemy. This monster was not created yesterday, we have these people locked up for far too long, and we need to expedite their matters,” he said.

He said his officers remain under threat, and they have to be extremely careful. “We cannot continue this way, we cannot continue to be living in fear, we have to get serious. We have to stand up as a people, against this darkness,” he said.
