Fearful’ suspect SURRENDERS...HOW MANY WOMEN ARE VICTIMS OF THIS KIND OF ABUSE??

THE man seen in a video on social media, kicking and hitting a woman in a bar surrendered yesterday to the Arouca police, accompanied by the same woman who was seen being beaten in the video. The video which was taken from CCTV footage is 49 seconds long and was posted on Facebook late Thursday night, and up to press time had more than 660,000 views, and was shared more than 24,000 times .

The video shows the woman sitting with a man in a bar located along the Arima Old Road, Arouca at about 3 pm on Thursday, when a dreadlocked man walked in and threw her off the chair. He was seen bending down, talking to her before he hit her several times about the body. The man also had a metal object in his hand which he used to hit the woman. He also kicked the woman in her head. The man she was talking to prior to the incident, quickly walked out of the bar. Many condemned him for leaving the woman .

Two shot at Riverside Plaza

Two men are in critical condition following an early-morning shooting at the Centre for Socially Displaced Persons (Riverside Plaza).

Police say shortly after 4 this morning an armed man walked into the building and opened fire on two men who were sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
Dennis Lewis, 39, was shot on his left thigh and left leg, while Selwyn Olivierre was shot on his head, one of his forearms and one of his legs.
Both men have been hospitalised.

Girl in viral bullying video goes to police

The young girl featured in a viral video showing her being beaten by a group of boys gave a statement to the Maloney Police last night along with her mother.

The video recording was said to have been made 3-4 years ago.
Investigations are continuing. The police thanked the members of the public for their assistance in this particular matter.
The horrific video, which started circulating on social media on Tuesday, shows the young girl being cornered by at least six boy of varying ages who proceeded to violently smash plastic bags filled with water on her back, as she huddled on the ground, in a grassy outdoor area.
At one point an older boy or man is seen grabbing her and holding onto her, and a voice can be heard telling them to take her into the bush.
Throughout the video the girl kept her head down and the boys can be heard telling her to show her face, or telling others to force her to show her face.
Posted to a local Facebook group, the video has since received over 100,000 views and over 2,800 shares.
Users were outraged, calling for the authorities to step in and condemning the heinous act.

Beaten student given more sick

INJURED schoolgirl Aqurisa James, 15, who was cuffed in the eye after refusing to give up her seat to her male classsmate, is expected to return to the San Fernando Police Station today to complete her official report as police continue investigations into a classroom incident last Thursday at the La Romaine Secondary School. The Form Four student who plays netball for her school is now nursing a black eye, and suffering from headaches. Yesterday, she visited an eye specialist and was given a further 14 days sick leave, her mother Charmaine James told Newsday yesterday. The parents of the 16 year old male student who attacked her has since apologised to the James family. It was reported that last week Thursday, during the Mathematics class, the teenager had demanded Aqurisa give him her chair when he entered the room as his was damaged. She refused and an altercation followed during which Aqurisa was repeatedly cuffed in the face.

Couple to appear in Tunapuna court for assaulting child

A 32-year-old man and his 20-year-old wife are expected to appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate this morning charged for willfully assaulting a child.

The couple, who are in the custody of the Maloney Police, were charged at about 11:30pm yesterday.
They are being represented by Defence Attorney Fareed Ali.
Up to 10:30pm yesterday police were still gathering evidence on the case as officers from the Crime Scene Investigative Unit of the TTPS visited the St Joseph home of the couple where the incident allegedly took place.
The officers were photographing the home, and up to 11pm were still interviewing the 32-year-old man in this matter.
The suspects, who are not the child’s parents, were held in a room on the second floor of a two-storey apartment building in Vistabella, San Fernando, on Thursday.
Thhey were held after a video circulated on Facebook showing a man slapping a child repeatedly.

Elderly person allegedly abused by nursing home worker

A photo has been circulating online of a woman, reputed to be a nursing home worker, abusing an elderly, infirm person.

The photo is said to be of a nursing home in West Trinidad and was taken by a concerned citizen.
The photo shows the woman standing over and partly on the elderly man, possibly hurting him.
Users on social media have protested against the photo, which suggests that the elderly man may be abused by the institution.
“Oh gosh noooo what that poor man could do her? No one deserves that kind of treatment. God sees everything and he'll deal with her,” said one person.
“Now how one could do this?? I don't know what people think or how they think in this time.....this place is evil,” said another.
“How can this nurse woman be so heartless,” said another.
One user said: “We have to constantly check on our love ones when they are in these homes.”
The photo has been sent to the authorities to be investigated.
Authorities and NGOs are concerned with recent incidents of abuse in the media, including the recent video of a child being abused by a St Joseph man.
The man is currently being apprehended by the authorities. 

POLICE SEARCHING FOR COUPLE IN TODDLER ABUSE VIDEO

The police are still searching for a couple in connection with the abuse of a toddler in a video which has gone viral.

The couple wanted for questioning in the matter are said to be Dexter Gobin alias Jahlo Dexter and Jamaican national Yanique Taylor Gobin, 
Reports say the couple, who lives in St Joseph, have gone into hiding.
Police officers went to the house after many people identified the man on social media but he was not there.
The couple was reportedly seen leaving their Hutton Street, St Joseph home in a white B-15 bearing the license plate number PBW 4053.
A man was captured on video repeatedly slapping a small child in pampers when she was giving trouble to drink a substance from a bottle.
A woman's voice is heard in the background urging the child to drink the substance.
At one point the man is seen dragging the child up via her hair after slapping  her to the ground.
Reports say the man is not the child's father but was babysitting her for a relative.
