18-year-old killed in Enterprise

An 18-year-old man was killed last night after he was shot by unknown assailants outside his mother's minimart in Enterprise.

Looptt was told that at about 9pm last night, Denzil Guy, of Michael Terrace, Enterprise, was outside his home where he helped his mother, Sherry Ann Samuel, run a minimart. 

Suddenly two men wearing black clothing and hoodies over their heads approached the teenager. They shouted words at him and both men drew firearms that they had in their hands and fired in the direction of Guy.

The 18-year-old was struck multiple times about the body, and attempted to flee the scene. However, he collapsed a short distance away.

The assailants then made good their escape on foot by running east along Michael Terrace.

A baby boy is tonight warded at hospital nursing gunshot wounds after he and his mother were caught in the middle of a shootout in Port-of-Spain, while in Barataria, Telecom Security officers were involved in a shootout of their own on Tenth Avenue Barataria. When the smoke cleared, one bandit lay dead on the roadway.

Gun drama outside MP Charles’ office

THERE was drama on Thursday night outside the office of the Opposition Naparima Member of Parliament (MP) Rodney Charles when one of the guests at a Divali function, Charles was hosting, was held up at gunpoint and robbed of his $300,000 white Ford Ranger van. The vehicle was found a short while later abandoned in Claxton Bay and has since been impounded at the Chaguanas Police Station as investigations continue. No one has been held.

A police report stated that at about 10.30 pm on Thursday, 55-year-old motor sales representative Nazrudeen Mohammed of Barrackpore, was returning to his vehicle which was parked opposite the MP’s office when he was approached by two gunmen who announced a hold-up and proceeded to rob him of the van before escaping in it.

Repeat offender jailed for robbing doubles vendor

SENTENCES amounting to twelve and a half years were handed down to a man charged with five offences, including robbing two doubles vendors at gunpoint.
Ketama Henry, 28, was found with the gun, ten minutes after the robbery, standing on the compound of a building under construction. At 10.30 a.m. last Wednesday, two doubles vendors were conducting sales at the corner of Sutton and Irving Streets, San Fernando when Henry who was armed with a firearm and in company of another person, announced a hold-up. The victims handed over a total of $3,000 and their assailants escaped.
Ten minutes later, officers who went to the scene and made their way to Rushworth Street, to a building under construction. They spotted Henry walking down the step, prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said. He was searched and a pistol was found tucked in the right side of his pants waist. The magazine contained 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. “In the breach of the firearm, an officer found one live round of ammunition,” Seedan said. Henry admitted he was not the holder of the relevant documents to be in possession of the gun and ammunition.
When he was taken to the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, Henry was pointed out by the doubles vendors as the man who robbed them. He admitted to the police that he did and he was “really sorry.”
